Youth Entrepreneurship Program

Maui Hui Mālama is launching a Youth Entrepreneurship Program.

This program is open to youth ages 15-22 who have an interest in entrepreneurship, exploring career opportunities, and expanding their general job skills.

The application for our first quarter program is now closed.

About the Program:

The program runs for 3 months, and participants will receive payment through a stipend at the end of the program. Participants will be expected to work an average of 10 hours per week. The weekly schedule will consist of two hours of online classroom training, two hours of assignments, and a six hour shift at our new Drive-in Movie Theater. The shifts will run from around 3:30pm to 9:30pm on Friday or Saturday evenings. If participants are in school, they are expected to maintain a “C” average in order to continue participating in the program.

Participants will receive virtual classroom training in Hawaiian cultural values related to entrepreneurship, essential business knowledge such as budgeting and market research, and will be encouraged to develop their own entrepreneurial ideas. The classroom lessons will then be put to hands-on use as participants become involved in the operations of the Drive-in Theater business, including budgeting, marketing, and planning events. The program will conclude with a Ho’ike where the youth participants plan, host, and lead the event, and have an opportunity to share what they have learned with their friends, family, and our supporters.

Covid-19 Precautions:

All youth participants as well as staff will be provided with appropriate personal protective equipment such as masks, gloves, hand-sanitizer, and handwashing stations. The Drive-in Theater model reinforces social distancing as each group of guests will be in their individual vehicles. We will have remote ordering set up for concessions as well to limit contact as much as possible. Guests will be required to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines if they exit the vehicle to use the restrooms etc.
