Hui Malama was recently selected by the Saltchuk Foundation to receive a $15,000 grant. This generous grant will support the center’s youth development program to inspire, nurture and empower middle and high school students with the life skills and knowledge to prepare them to be positive performers in Maui’s social, economic, cultural and environmental condition. Hui Malama will also work extensively with community partners to ensure students get the attention, teaching and social support to be successful contributors to their families and community as well as give their students the opportunity to build essential skills related to building habits of mind (perseverance, listening with empathy and thinking / communicating clearly); teach them to practice aloha and be builders rather than maintainers. Through innovative youth engagement and leveraging business and community resources, they will develop the whole person, cultivating students’ unique talents, intelligence and character.
