It was a privilege working with Hawaiian culture adviser, Kimokeo Kapahulehua at Ko’ie’ie Fish pond. Uncle Kimokeo brought awareness to the importance of a Hawaiian Ahupua’a utilizing resources mountain ward and seaward. We also learned various types of fishpond known as Loko I’a Kalo (taro fishponds), Loko Wai (fresh water inland ponds), Loko Pu’uone (ponds within a sand dune area), Loko Kuapa (seawall built with stone and coral) and a Loko ‘Ume Iki (funnel shaped reef flats along the coast). He also shared how important it was to work with each other caring for our resources in Hawaii.
