Four Hui Malama clients were inspired to express their “Compassion and Aloha for the Hungry and Homeless in Hawaii” with entries in the annual art contest put on by Aloha Harvest, an Oahu rescue program that helps other organizations feed the hungry.
They traveled with Maui Hui Malama staff to Oahu for the exhibit opening, and spent the day exploring Honolulu. Ice skating at the Ice Palace, for the very first time, was a highlight for the youths. They enjoyed shopping at Ala Moana Center and the Japanese market.
The opening was held at the Honolulu Museum of Art School, where all contest entries were on display from October 27 through November 11. The contest was open to all Hawaii students in grades 6 through 12. Three of the four participants were awarded prizes in their divisions! They were proud to be honored, and enjoyed seeing how other youth expressed their caring in art.
